Beginning in 1996, INTELECOM launched a seminal eight-year effort to create four dramatic video series with closely integrated worktexts, teacher resources and assessment tools designed to teach English as a Second Language, Civics and Citizenship Education, and Family and Basic Skills Literacy.
In addition to INTELECOM, this ground-breaking effort involved the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. State Department (formerly U.S. Information Agency), and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) along with the state adult education agencies of California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina and North Carolina. In collaborating with state and federal agencies, and by adhering to the highest standards of instructional design, production and implementation, INTELECOM helped to break down barriers to adult learning – providing important new opportunities for learning to scores of unserved, underserved, and at-risk populations.
Today, INTELECOM’s award-winning adult education courses continue to help learners achieve their educational goals in correctional facilities, libraries, adult education and community-based programs, library literacy, and distance learning programs.
