to Sociology

The Way
We Live is a comprehensive introduction to Sociology
distance learning course that blends all the attributes
of video with the best-selling textbooks Sociology
and Society: The Basics; a course study guide;
a faculty guide with exam bank; and an optional online
component.
Course
Components
- 22 half-hour video lessons address
core topics, correlate directly to the course textbooks,
and provide the context for learning. Real-world
examples in each video, called Slice of Life,
focus on real people and issues, and foster better
understanding of key concepts.
- Two textbooks
have been selected for the course - Sociology
and Society: The Basics (John Macionis).
- The Study Guide, authored by Stephen
Light, Ph.D., SUNY Plattsburgh, provides important
lesson information and learning aids to enhance the
distance learning experience for students.
- A faculty guide and exam
bank are available to all institutions that
license The Way We Live.
- An optional online component,
developed by Richard Sweeney, Modesto Junior College
, includes learning modules for each lesson; interactive
exercises; expanded analysis questions for use with
online discussion groups; and audio clips. Available
in HTML and WebCT ready formats.
Flexible
Delivery
The extensive
rights that INTELECOM grants in its distance learning
license provide institutions maximum flexibility for
offering The Way We Live.

Course
delivery using established methods of television,
video/DVD check-out, and supporting print materials.
- Web-enhanced
- Web-based
technology is used to enhance or augment traditional
telecourse delivery.
- Hybrid/Blended
(Distance Learning) - Delivery
of course content using an effective blend of campus
delivery methods (e.g. Online, DVD, CD, streamed media
delivery).
- Online - Course
content is delivered entirely online, utilizing campus
LMS and streamed media delivery.
