Testimonials
"The stories are
very realistic and the actors are very good and believable; consequently,
the episodes are very entertaining. But more importantly, I like
to see the students respond positively to what they are seeing.
Although, the vocabulary is difficult, I like to see them stretch
to learn new words, and although the themes are complex, they do
not overwhelm most of the students."

Recently I had two students arrive who were about to go
the Immigration interview in Portland to try to get permanent residency.
But they felt they had to show that they were attending a citizenship
class and would complete 40 hours. I wasn't sure if this really
was required, but we set up a schedule of watching only Turning
Points of On Common Ground and the Worktext that goes with On Common
Ground. Other students joined with them to watch the tape and to
discuss the worksheets. I came along to help out with vocabulary
toward the end of the class, because this was happening simultaneously
with my regular GED or ESL classes. This small group really enjoyed
the challenge and the conversation. They were intensely interested
in many principles of justice. The best part is that the two ladies
did interview at Immigration in Portland and got their permanent
residency!!!

Ive used On Common Ground with intermediate and advanced
ESL students and in citizenship classes. The episodes are very powerful,
very compelling, very real to students. The situations are familiar
to them, the events are not shocking to them. Even those students
with limited language ability are able to discuss the issues. It
enables us to discuss the difficult issues of democracy. Its
an excellent product a really powerful experience."

This is provocative dramatization! A dynamic and innovative
approach to teaching citizenship, civics and government. The
material comes alive for learners, helping them visualize as they conceptualize
during the learning process. Plus, On Common Ground, is also
ideal for alternative education such as sheltered classes, continuation
schools or various types of distance learning programs."

I
truly enjoyed watching the series. [The videos] were interesting,
easy to follow, and had an emotional level to them. I liked the
way it taught the justice system. Instead of listing the laws or
giving examples from 100 years ago, it gave us a story. The stories
explained the laws in a way we could understand."
